Dr. Ron V. Myers is the leader of the campaign to make Juneteenth Independence Day a National Holiday Observance in America. Founder & President of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (NJOF) and the National Juneteenth Christian Leadership Council (NJCLC), his efforts have resulted in the recognition of Juneteenth as a state holiday or state holiday observance in 39 states and the passage of legislation in the U.S. Congress to recognize the "19th of June" as Juneteenth Independence Day in America.
Dallas National Flag Raising Ceremony
On Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 12 Noon, Dallas will experience their very first "National Flag Raising Ceremony" at the South Dallas Cultural Center located at 3400 S. Fitzhugh at corner of Robert Cullum Blvd. (in vicinity of Fair Park area).
Ms. Constance Smith, Director for Dallas' National Flag Raising Ceremony is affiliated with National Juneteenth Chairman Dr. Ron Myers. After the ceremony, Ms. Smith will collect petition signatures to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or state holiday observance.
The Flag Raising Ceremony will begin with a prayer, the reading of the Proclamation of Emancipation, the flag raising and finally, everyone singing the National Black Anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing".
